Second International Junior Sambo Tournament "Young Samboist"

Second International Sambo Competition between children sambo clubs, devoted to the 100th year birthday anniversary of Anatoliy A. Harlampiev, was held in Moscow (Russia) in Ivan Yarygin Wresling Palace on September 21-23. The tournament was sponsored by Prefect of Moscow South-East Administrative District.

Advisor of Russian President Mr. A.Aslakhanov, Prefect of Moscow South-East Administrative District Mr. V.Zotov, FIAS President Mr. D.Rudman, Russian Sambo Federation President Mr. S.Eliseev, President of Association of Developing Sport Martial Arts "Otechestvo" Mr. B.Rotenberg, Vice-President of SportCommittee of Moscow Mr. R.Laishev, President of A.A.Harlampiev Fund Mr. V.Zeglov were present at the competition.

Juniors born in 1994 or 1995 took part in the competition in the following weight categories: 30, 32, 35, 38, 41, 45, 49, 53, 57, 64, 67 and over 67 kg.

  10. "Eseninskiy Kray" (Ryazan)
  11. "Skif" (Vladikavkaz)
  12. "Cherkessia" (Maykop)
  13. "Chetra" (Cheboksary)
  14. "Gagarinets" (Zodino, Belarus)
  15. "Olimp" (Grozniy)
  16. "Vyskunets" (Vyksa)

Team "Sambo-330" from Sankt-Peterburg won the first place, young sportsmen from Tula won the second place and third place was devided between "Vyskunets" (Vyksa) and "Proletarskiy Sambist" (Moscow).

According to FIAS President David Rudman, "Young Samboist" tournaments provided real test in endurance and determination and became jumping-off place into the world of big sport for Honored Master Sambo, 3 times World Champion Igor Kurennoy; Honored Master Sambo, 2 times World Champion, World Cup Champion, 2 times Europe Champion Suren Balachinskiy; Honored Master Sambo, World Champion Aleksandr Filatov; Master Sambo of Internation Class, World Champion Aleksandr Sidorov; Master Sambo of Internation Class, 2 times World Champion, World Cup prize-winner Dmitriy Kobalia; Master Sambo of Internation Class, World Champion Sergey Golovin and many other well-known sambo sportsmen.
